Section 5: Konvas Installation

On the 17 EP motor, remove the four screws holding the side panel on and expose the guts of the motor.
You must remove the first circuit board so you have room to work in there. There are two indents at the top of the board that you can slip a fingernail or screwdriver tip under. Gently pry up a little on each side until the board comes free. Don't force anything!
Here is the board you will be removing. Nifty engineering, isn't it?
Place the board aside for safe keeping while you unscrew the russian power connector and work in the guts of the motor.
Here is where the connector used to live. But it is still attached inside the motor housing.
Mark the wires for positive and negative as in the Kinor 35H essay. Before unsoldering the wires, place a wad of tissue into the motor housing to catch any stray solder drips. If a glob of molten solder falls down into your circuitry -- you're screwed!
Drill and tap the mounting holes for the one inch 4-40 machine screws. Refer to the Kinor essay for proper procedure.
Screw your new 4 pin xlr assembly into place and replace the fuse holder and circuit board.
If everything seems to be in order it's time to close her up again!
Don't forget the plastic insulation on the inside of the motor housing door -- it's probably there for a reason!
Replace the screws carefully -- do not overtighten.
The finished 17 EP motor back on the Konvas and ready for duty!
Isn't it a beautiful sight? No longer will you be ridiculed and abused on set. Let the craft service knuckleheads take the heat from now on -- they deserve it!
